Events & Programs
The Friends of the Elm Grove Library sponsor a variety of informative and entertaining programs for the benefit and enjoyment of the community. These events are usually free of charge, open to the public and generally take place in the lower level of the library. There are programs for adults and children as well as book discussion groups.

Adult Programs
The Friends of the Elm Grove Library sponsors, in collaboration with the Elm Grove Library, a series of programs throughout the year for the adult community. Generally, the events are held in the lower level of the Village Hall and are free and open to the public.
Children’s Programs
Each year we plan about six programs for children of all ages and their families. The programs are typically held on a Saturday morning at 10:30am. Past events have included Sunset Playhouse’s Bug in the Rug theatrical group and Mad Science. We also sponsor a booth at the Elm Grove Business Association’s “Walk the Plank” Halloween event.
Fundraisers
Throughout the year, the Friends of the Elm Grove Library host fundraisers to support the library’s programs and services. The Used Book Sales (November & March), and Lights of Love have become annual traditions fondly anticipated by our community members.
Each fundraiser includes an element of fun – whether it’s a great find at the Used Book Sale or staffing the sale with friends or neighbors; finding great stocking stuffers at the Mini Holiday Book Sale in November; preparing the Lights of Love mailing, watching or aiding children in holiday crafts, or sharing in the joys of the annual tree lighting and caroling at Lights of Love.

Honoring the Burany Bequest
In 2017, the Friends of Elm Grove Library received a $50,000 bequest from the estate of Frank and Helen Burany. Long-time residents may remember the couple as former owners of the Sleepy Hollow Motel in Elm Grove as well as other properties in the area. From their humble early days this generous couple celebrated 75 years of marriage before Helen passed away in 2012 and Frank in 2016. Their planned estate gift to our library was an unexpected and wonderful surprise!
Board members decided the gift would be best used by updating the Adult and Young Adult Reading Areas of the library to enhance our library experience for patrons and staff. Walls were painted, new furniture was selected, electrical outlets for charging devices were added, and directional signage was installed throughout the library.
The legacy of Frank and Helen Burany lives on through their incredible gift which enriches a strong and viable library for the Village of Elm Grove. The Burany’s son, Richard, his family and friends joined us for a commemorative event.
